Dracula's

For our evening entertainment we decided to check out Dracula's. This is a haunted themed dinner cabaret show that has been running in Australia for 30 years. The reason for choosing this one was that to get you into the theatre you have to journey on a ghost train. At one time it was listed as a coaster but was subsequently removed. We thought we'd check it out anyway.

The restaurant is a 15 minute drive from the centre of the gold coast. You are advised to book in advance and get here early. A sizeable queue had formed by the time we'd arrived. Live actors ensure the queue is kept entertained.

Theming is pretty good throughout the venue but they need some better merchandise. It's perfect if you buy blood packs as souvenirs but they need some more conventional gifts.

It's a crappy photo but the ghost train is short but really fun. Because it's being used as a transit system you can't really ride it a second time but there are a couple of well timed scares along its journey.

The show itself (no photos allowed) is pretty decent. It's a little bit naughty in places but that's it's charm. It was interesting hearing their jokes aimed at Tasmanians, who I know now are their chavs or rednecks. The brits were picked on too "Any British in the house? No, they're probably outside having a winge" and the show routines range from some really great ones (magic in the second half) to some quite bizarre ones (a recreation of a Ray Bradbury winning Olympic speed skating gold in 2002). There is a great section that uses everybody in the theatre and that provided the biggest laughs of the night, which I'm not going to give away here, and I'm so surprised nobody has ever done it before. It's so simple it's genius. (I apologise whole heartedly for not revealing it)

So we were entertained, we'd drunk some ridiculously sized cocktails, and had a very nice meal. Can't ask for more than that. One final tip is that if you've not booked a cab to get you back expect a rush when you leave. We mitigated that by sneaking out just before the end.
