Melbourne

I'd heard many positive comments about the city of Melbourne so was looking forward to visiting here more than anywhere else on the trip. Unfortunately, like pretty much every city, our time here was limited so I was up and out early to do a quick explore.

In preparation for the next F1 series there were a few promotional exhibits for the event. The first event in the 2012 calendar is due to take place here in March.

The Edge tower. We'd be there at the end of the day.

The copper pyramid is actually a huge theremin that plays as commuters walk past. Novel!

A view from one of the city bridges, it certainly looks a lot better than the view from Westminster Bridge :)

The city's Centre of the Moving Image. This whole block is full of cinemas and other cool stuff and is one of the people centres in the city.

The city has an Aquarium, and the building looks like something out of Thunderbirds. Much better than our's.

Similar to our Barclaybike. Cycles are available for hire to get you around Melbourne quickly. I was content to stroll though.

St Paul's Cathedral. This is good but our's is better!

The Russian looking Flinder's St Station.

Downtown. Beautiful!

Melbourne has an amazingly strong graffiti scene with a load of pieces tucked away in the alleys around the area east of St Pauls. Rather than comment on each piece I've posted a decent selection of pieces. There used to be a couple of Banksy pieces here but they were inadvertently removed last year. It would have been nice to have seen them, but here was plenty more to stimulate my eyes.

Quite simply I was not disappointed by Melbourne at all but I realise that I have not scratched the surface of what goes on here. I'm definitely coming back and it'll be for longer next time. No more need be said.

When we headed out of Melbourne we stopped by Pin Oak Court, a small cul-de-sac in the eastern city suburbs that is better known as Ramsay Street from the TV soap Neighbours. When we got there I was convinced we had the wrong location, it's way smaller in real than on screen. The camera really makes this place look bigger than it actually is. I had planned on recreating Scott's car crash death but was too embarressed :)
