Skippy's Wonderland

The final leg of the trip had us breaking up the lengthy flight home with a couple of days in Bangkok, Thailand. This turned a near 23 hour flight into a 9 and 12; much nicer and an added bonus was that we got to ride some more rollercoasters.

The first one was a late addition to the trip as I discovered it with just one week to go. The whole reason for coming here was based on this clip uploaded to youtube.

Jump to 00:50 and there's about 2 seconds of clip with something that looks like a coaster. Yes, that's right, that was my evidence. Too much foliage meant nothing could be seen on satellite imagery. Anyway as it was close to the hotel and opened early we thought we'd check.

Dusit Zoo is a historical zoo opposite the king's palace and at one time was the grounds to it. It's now home to a substantial collection of animals and is very popular with the locals. It's full name is a bit of a mouthful but everyone knows of it as Dusit Zoo.

The park is completely signed in Thai, fortunately these signs are much easier to follow and we headed in the direction of the Ferris Wheel.

The elephant is sacred in Thailand, which begs the question why are they chained down?

I wonder if they count dinosaurs in the thousands of species they're reportedly have here.

The park surrounds a huge lake adorned with cute bronze animal fountains.

and some live ones. I almost stepped on this lizard, easily the biggest one of the trip.

The park is situated beside the aviary on the southern edge of the park if that helps with directions.

This is Bobby Brown's favourite bird. Do you know why? Toucan play that game!

After the short walk we started to see signs like these and hurrah, there was a coaster shown. Our taxi driver translated it as "Pig Run", which we thought was a great name but a second opinion back at the hotel told us it was "Running Rat", which is probably more appropriate.

There's a sizeable selection of rides in the park which we discovered was called Skippy's Wonderland. Nothing to do with kangaroos or peanut butter.

So here's the coaster and it was just a wacky worm derivative, but they all count, and it's always good to find a unlisted rollercoaster. Yay to me!

A good start to the day despite the humidity, which was worse than in Indonesia. We had a number of parks today to visit, most of them outdoors so today was going to be a good test.
