Trans Studio Indoor Theme Park

Bandung is the third largest city in Indonesia and is famous for it's fashion industry but a new theme park is going to make it famous for another reason. The drive from the safari park took 3 hours and as we entered Bandung it was very surprising how a theme park like this could exist in what is a very slum and poor area.

The rollercoaster runs out of the park building and looks like a similar ride to the Batman chiller rides in America. It's a coaster that opened in 2011 and was under construction when Tal visited it last year. Sorry Tal. For those not familiar with the ride it's a launch, couple of turns then you stall up a large vertical spike before returning back into the station.

One of the park mascots welcoming us to the park.

Judging by the empty queue lines it wasn't very busy today at all.

The Yamaha Coaster is the first you come across as you enter the park proper. Rather disappointingly it has nothing to do with keyboards.

It's the Yamaha bikes, although this is a car.

Car or bike, bike or car?
The ride is excellent with a nice punchy launch, a surprising extra boost on the spike that gets you near the top, and nice hang time on the return back to the station

The second attraction for us was the 4D Marvel show, identical to the one in Tussauds in London bar  a pre-show that includes an Avengers trailer unique to this park. There was something odd about travelling all the way out there to watch a movie set in London.

There are a number of spin rides in the park that get close to nearby walls adding a slightly extra thrill to what are fairly standard rides.

The park is vast inside and it was a real shock when you get to the end of the main street section and see this huge space opened out in front of you. Like Lotte World in Korea it's surprising how many rides have been crammed in and even the logistics such as how heavy this water ride must be to be several floors up.

I found this video which gives an excellent overview of the park!

Theming inside the park was top notch and in hindsight we should have allocated more time to this park but not knowing much about it before we left it was hard to know. It's definitely worth going back to!

This attraction is a behind the scene stunt attraction like Backdraft. Next to this there's a beautifully put together haunted dark ride called Dunia Alia that relies on minimal scares and some wonderful tension build up to spook the riders.

Indoor tower rides always work well and they'd made a wise move in including one here. Anyone remember the drop in the Trocadero and how great that was? This one was running a bounce cycle too!

More top notch theming.

It's just a shame that taking photos in these light conditions is such a bitch!

Whilst there we were mobbed by a group of young kids who weren't used to seeing westerners in their local park. It was a little overwhelming and I wasn't sure what to make of it, but we spent a bit of time with them posing for photos and conversing with them in English so they could practice talking in it.

For those into merchandise (not me) there's a decent gift shop for you all (not me)

Popping outside I tried to take some photos of the ride. However the structure and skies made it difficult to get good shots. They need a wheel or some sort of observation platform next to the ride really. When I got home I found a video clip that shows the ride from a vantage point I'd missed :(

But you can see the ride layout from this :)

Trans Studio Bandung blew me away. I had no idea how big this place was going to be and as mentioned earlier I could have done with more time here. The coaster is great but even without it the park is a must-do for those visiting the country. It's just a shame Bandung is so out of the way.

As mentioned earlier it's a 3 hour drive from the safari park. If you want a quicker drive from Jakarta then there's a toll road that can get you there in 2 hours, and we used that road to get back to the hotel. It's also possible to get here by train and plane but the car is the easiest for those not affiliated with the Indonesian cities.
